Confirmation that Christmas lights will continue, future plans for the Market Square, funding to tackle The Drapery's traffic congestion and the impact of the University's new town centre campus .... all this and much more was discussed at the BID's business conference last week.
 
Our ‘Northampton town centre – Our Next Steps’ event brought a panel of business, education and council leaders together, with Northampton residents and businesses asking challenging questions and sharing their aspirations.
 
Rob Purdie, Executive Director of Northampton town centre Business Improvement District (BID), summarised: “It is time to act, to focus on our town centre, to be positive and to move forwards. University of Northampton’s Waterside Campus - open this week
It's set to be a busy week. The University of Northampton’s new Waterside Campus has now opened and 12,000 young people and 2,000 staff will potentially be coming into Northampton town centre.
 
Speaking at last week's business conference Dr Deborah Mattock, Director of Human Resources, Marketing and International Relations at the University, said: “Please welcome all our students and staff. Our students have money to spend and skills to offer.”
 
This week is Freshers Week, with the Market Square (for the first time) hosting a week long event - with stalls, information and lots of students.

  • This week - Students start moving into the new University campus. and the Freshers Fair is held throughout the week on the Market Square
  • Monday, 24th September - BID Monthly Meeting, 6pm-7.30pm
  • Wednesday, 26th September - BID Monthly Meeting, 7.30am-9am
  • Monday 12th November - Mystery Shopping Awards
