M&S and town news
You will have seen and heard the news about the risk of closure for the Northampton town centre Marks & Spencer .

The BID has been responding to lots of local and national media enquiries since the announcement was made yesterday and some of the links to interviews and articles with our executive director, Rob Purdie are below.

We are keen to gauge the response from town centre businesses and are working with M&S on the consultation process and town centre partners to develop a town centre plan with more urgency - contact us HERE and let us know your opinion.

There will be a further interviews with Rob Purdie in tomorrow's Chronicle & Echo and later this evening on Channel 5 .

Street Circus & Love Your Local Market
Our free one-day Street Circus  – organised to tie in with the day of the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle - drew the crowds into the Northampton town centre on Saturday.

We took some fabulous photos - check out our Facebook page HERE .

Love Your Local Market
It is also now ' Love Your Local Market Fortnight' and a timely opportunity to look back on the history of one of the oldest and largest market squares in England.

Our town centre square dates from 1235 when Henry III forbade the selling of goods in the churchyard of All Saints and ordered that the Market be moved to a space north of the churchyard, its present site.

Updates are available on Twitter @LoveNNMarket and Facebook @LoveNorthamptonMarket.

Shoe planting - a reminder to get involved
Boot and shoe plants are back this year as Northampton town centre gets set to compete in both Britain in Bloom and East Midlands in Bloom.

The BID is working with the St Giles Residents Committee, Friends of Becketts Park and Northampton Borough Council to encourage more local businesses to participate in the exciting #SHOEPLANTS project, which last year saw unique floral displays attached to railings, doorsteps and windowsills in St Giles Terrace.

It created such a positive buzz from shoppers and on social media that we would love it to be even bigger and better this time around.

Project partners can deliver you a pair of shoes, or you can create your own display - and once it's up the BID Hosts will visit to take pictures for Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. To find out more contact us HERE .
